Fascinating, especially the multiple themes implied, from nun to Aztec mystic to ballerina... I can see how it was fun, but it also says something interesting about the ways that we -- that is, the general public, or at least those who are drawn to viewing images and thinking about what they might mean -- tend to look for or even impose certain categories, stereotypes and sets of fascinations or obsessions to what we look at. This seems to be especially true where women are involved as subject and object at the same time, and I know I'm not original in saying that. But in this case, the image is quite fresh and original in the way that it seems to be tweaking that kind of obsession and adding of messages to images that may have been created to provoke and yet challenge the usual expectations.

Or maybe I'm just thinking too much.

The image works wonderfully, strictly as a formal image. The varied elements are treated sensitively, in a way that does not draw attention to the fact of how the image was composited from several sources.

The unity of the almost sepia color palette in particular manages to provide a pleasant look that perhaps ensures that the challenging combination of multiple symbols, tropes and conventions are not the first thing one sees, though I should probably speak for myself on that factor.
